In Our Community: Rounding Up for Hunger Relief

Our local food co-op has a creative way to assist food pantries, such as Orange Congregations in Mission. (Our congregation helped found OCIM over 35 years ago.)

When you shop at the co-op, you can round up your purchase to the nearest dollar amount. Using the money collected, co-op staff shop the store for fresh produce to donate.

I’ve seen a great many hunger relief programs over the years. I like this program for two reasons: one, the produce given away is fresh; and two, anyone can participate. You may not have $50 to donate, but you can add $.50 to your purchase and still make a difference.
