Carve your blessings in stone

At a recent clergy retreat, I took a walk after lunch. Naturally, we met at a religious retreat center which featured a labyrinth, chapel, and other areas for prayer and meditation.

This stone greets guests at the entrance to the labyrinth.

“Write your hurts in the sand – carve your blessings in stone.”

Here’s a verse from the prophet Isaiah with a similar idea:

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18-19)
