Scripture readings for Sunday 1/8/17 are: Isaiah 42:1-9, Psalm 29, Matthew 3:13-17.
Here are some thoughts on the Scripture lessons:
— Hear both Scripture passages as a call to you. How has God called you into righteousness (Isaiah 42:6), to be a light to others? In the Matthew passage, we may interpret Jesus’ baptism as his public call to ministry. How has God called you into ministry?
— In the Isaiah passage, God describes his servant as someone powerful enough to establish justice, but humble enough so as to not break a bruised reed. We see these qualities in Jesus — power, strength, kindness, and humility. How do we display these qualities as followers of Jesus?
Please pray for emergency personnel, transportation personnel, and all those working during the winter storm. Also please pray for those without adequate heat or food. Remember you can bring non-perishable food donations to church any Sunday.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord be kind and gracious unto you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. Alleluia! Amen.
