Mission activities
New Hope Presbyterian Church has an active mission committee that serves our local and global communities in many ways.
We strive to address important needs in our area, especially hunger in our local schools and community, and the issue of homelessness, including the following support and activities:
- Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM) – We regularly collect canned and nonperishable foods and personal care items for its Food Pantry based on the identified needs. We also collect Pennies for Hunger on first Sundays to donate to OCIM.
- Meals on Wheels – Several church members deliver hot meals to households in need.
- Local schools — “Lanie’s Power Pack” program provides nutritious snacks to children in need at New Hope Elementary School on a weekly basis throughout the school year. We also support the identified needs for three local schools in our area.
- Homelessness project — We have begun a new program to provide supplies and food to homeless individuals in our local area.
- Presbyterian Campus Ministry (PCM) at UNC-Chapel Hill – We provide financial support to PCM and leadership through Board membership.
- New Hope Camp and Conference Center — We assist several children to attend the Camp by providing scholarships.
- Missionary family in Thailand — We provide financial support for our missionary family who serves in Thailand for part of each year.
- Migrant farmworkers camp — We address special needs and provide critical supplies and support to migrant farmworkers in Newton Grove, NC.
- Welcome house/refugee support — We provide needed supplies, transportation, and fellowship to the refugees housed at the Welcome House.
- Disaster relief — We collect food and other needed items to send to areas affected by natural disasters, including the NC mountains recently impacted by Hurricane Helene.
